In relation to the 30 years jubilee for Sex Pistols’ classic rock album 'Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols', leading Danish music magazine Gaffa asked Martin Hall to write their supplement to the October edition of the magazine 2007. MH’s writing became an extensive essay focussing much more on the period itself and on the background of the group than on the recording of the album itself. Furthermore the article has a number of references to the original Danish punk scene of the time.
Sex Pistols themselves hopefully don’t need any introduction whatsoever, but for the sake of clarity, why not quote singer Johnny Rotten during his improvisatory opening of the group’s cover version of the old Stooges track “No Fun” (the b-side of the ”Pretty Vacant” single from July 1977). He seems to summon up the agenda of the band very well here:
"Right! ... here we go now ... a sociology lecture ... with a bit of psychology ... a bit of neurology ... a bit of fuckology ... no fun!" |
